Area Attractions

The Jacksonville Zoo and Garden was established in 2004, the zoo houses 2,000 rare and exotic animals and 1,000 varieties of plants. Situated in downtown Jacksonville along the St. Johns River is the Jacksonville Landing. The landing is home for year-round entertainment, a wide variety of waterfront dining options and inside shopping mall. The Landing hosts more than 600 events each year including the Florida/Georgia annual football event. The landing also hosts activities such as the annual Christmas Tree Lighting, New Year’s Eve fireworks and party and TaxSlayer Bowl activities. During the spring and summer months the landing hosts activities such as St. Patrick’s Day and July 4th fireworks display. The Landing also hosts weekly events include live weekend entertainment in the center courtyard offering a variety of music including classic rock, oldies, contemporary, jazz, and top 40.

The restaurants at The Landing are open 7 days a week and have a magnificent view of the St. Johns River. The Landing also has two nightclubs; Mavericks Live, that offers a variety of late-night entertainment plus national concert acts, and VooDoo Ultra Lounge for a fun night full of dancing and good times.

The Landing is a U-shaped pavilion sitting on 9 acres of river front property on the bank of the St Johns River. The structure consists of 126,000-square-feet of space housing stores and restaurants. The Food Court is actually called the Founders Food Hall and displays 17 images of people who had a role in the settlement of the area. A statue of Andrew Jackson sits on the round-a-bout in front of facility it was dedicated on June 27, 1987 by Congressman Charles Bennett and Mayor Jake Godbold. The statue is made primarily of bronze and sits nine feet tall and weighs 2,800 pounds.

If you have a boat you can visit The Landing and enjoy the food and shopping. The Landing has over 1000 feet of dock space available for public use.

Metropolitan Park is situated along the shores of the St. Johns River in Downtown Jacksonville, the park opened in 1984. This 27-acre facility offers something for everyone.

A large number if entertainers have performed at the park, some of the stars that have performed here include Tony Bennett, Brad Paisley, Jessica Simpson, Earth, Wind and Fire, James Taylor, Idina Minzel, Michael Buble, Styx, Train, Nancy Wilson, Lonestar, George Benson, Faith Hill, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Jackson Brown, Chaka Khan, John Rich and Wynonna.

Jacksonville Area Beaches

The Jacksonville area beaches consists of four separate beach area, Jacksonville Beach, Neptune Beach, Atlantic Beach and Mayport.

Mayport is a historic village home to casino boats and seafood restaurants. In Mayport you can eat freshly-caught seafood, including the local specialty, Mayport shrimp.

Just south of Mayport are the communities of Atlantic Beach and Neptune Beach. The area is well known for the beautiful white beaches and its casual and upscale dining facilities. This area also has a very upbeat nightlife scene.  

Finally, we have Jacksonville Beach.  Get a tan, catch a wave or take a walk down the Fishing Pier. On the pier local’s fish and suntan while enjoying the beautiful ocean breezes. Jacksonville Beach is also home to the Sea Walk Pavilion, here you can catch a movie or listen to one of the many concerts. Jacksonville also has a great night life; you can enjoy beverages at the local breweries. They include the Green Room Brewery and Engine 15 Brewing Co. Or just enjoy the night life and the local clubs.

Getting to these great beaches is easy just take the Mathews Bridge to the Arlington Expressway/Atlantic Blvd. east until you reach A1A. Turn right to go to Neptune and Atlantic Beach, left for Jacksonville.

Riverside & Avondale

The Riverside & Avondale has antique shops, cafes, and boutiques. This area is also home to the Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens overlook the St John’s River. Riverside, listed in the National Registry of Historic Places, is one of Jacksonville’s oldest and coolest neighborhoods. Voted as one of the country’s top 10 Great Neighborhoods, Riverside & Avondale have a unique mix of history, culture, charm, and modern design. The area has million-dollar waterfront homes and upscale apartment buildings.

San Marco

Springfield

Arlington

Mandarin

This area of Jacksonville was established in 1830 and was after the Mandarin orange. It is situated on the St. Johns River just south of San Marco. Mandarin is home to the Mandarin Museum and Walter Jones Historical Park. This 10-acre riverfront site is home to an 1876.

Mandarin is characterized by its magnificent oak trees hung with dramatic Spanish moss and has some of the best views of the St. Johns River. Ortega

Ortega lies on the St Johns River just south of the Riverside area. Ortega is bordered by the St. Johns River on the east, the Cedar River on the north, and the Ortega River on the west.
