The City of Fernandina Beach is located on Amelia Island in Nassau County Florida. Fernandina Beach is also known as the "Isle of 8 Flags", it received this name because of the many nations that governed the city over time. Since 1562 the following national flags have flown over Fernandina Beach and Amelia Island; France, Spain, Great Britain, the Patriots of Amelia Island, the Green Cross of Florida, Mexico, the Confederate States of America, and the United States. Fernandina Beach is the only city in the US that has flown eight different national flags.

Access to Fernandina Beach from Interstate 95 is via highway 200, the city is located only 35 miles northeast of downtown Jacksonville.

Fernandina Beach was originally founded by the Spanish in 1811, the city first stood one mile north of its present location. Old Town Fernandina and Fernandina Plaza Historic State Park can still be seen at the original location.

Fernandina Beach is also home to Fernandina Plaza, during the early day of the Spanish occupation this plaza was actually the old Plaza de la Constitucion. This area is known today as "Old Town," the area is on the Amelia River on the northern edge of Fernandina Beach.

According to historians the plaza area has been occupied since prehistoric times. Archaeologists uncovered evidence of settlements in this area by American Indians that date back about 4,000 years.

Due to the proximity to Jacksonville this area is considered a bedroom community for people wishing to work in Jacksonville but also enjoy the wonderful slow paced life style of Fernandina Beach.

The downtown area of Fernandina Beach features 400-plus historic structures on the National Register of Historic Places. Here you will find historic homes, churches, and commercial buildings. Make sure you visit the downtown area and take a trip back in time, enjoy the Victorian homes and take a glimpse into the ways of old time Florida living.

Fernandina Beach has a small-town feel, the downtown area features pubs, restaurants, gift shops, art galleries, and antiques/consignment stores. Here you can ride in a horse-drawn carriage or a trolley and learn about local history. Cruise the local waterways on a tour boat or charter a fishing boat. Or just take a relaxing walk and enjoy the architecture of the downtown area. During your stroll around the downtown area learn about the cities shrimping heritage at the Shrimping Museum located at the Fernandina Marina Welcome Center, next to the downtown boat ramp. If you love shrimp just visit the restaurant located just next door to the museum and enjoy the fresh daily caught shrimp.

If you are in the Fernandina Beach area during the month of May make sure and make time for the Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival. While visiting the festival you will see activities that include vendors with seafood, arts, crafts, collectibles and antiques, live music, the Miss Shrimp Festival pageant, a fireworks display and a parade.

Amelia National Golf and Country Club

Located in the Fernandina beach area is the Amelia National Golf and Country Club, the facility provides numerous outdoor activities for its residents and visitors. The main attraction is the beautiful Tom Fazio signature golf course. The Amelia Island Golf and Country Club is located just five minutes from the beach and 30 miles from downtown Jacksonville.
